Camera Techniques

These workshops are all about coming to grips with cameras, including the most important settings, how to hold and balance the camera for stable footage.

Everything Audio

Sound is as important, if not more important, than the picture. In this workshop, Kevin takes you through the main types of mics we use when filming and how to use them.

Storytelling

In this workshop you will learn what makes a story unique, how to "unpack" an idea, how to approach research and how to "see" your film before it's shot.

Lighting

Filming is all about capturing light and in this workshop, Kevin walks you through the basics of setting up and positioning lights to get results as well as how to do so safely.

Interviews

Interviews are an integral part of the documentary toolkit. Kevin shares with you tips for getting honest answers from your guests as well as how to frame and position your interview shots.

Capturing Footage

How do you know what shots to take? What are establishing shots and cutaways? In these workshops, you'll find all this out as well as how to build shot lists, how to shoot for the edit and more.

The edit is where your story comes together and is often the most challenging. These workshops are split between principles editing (the theory if you will) , practical elements like sourcing stock footage & sound effects, as well as an introduction to Davinci Resolve, a powerful, free editing program. Already comfortable with a program? No problem, the principles and practices aren't platform specific.
