Your First Movie Starts Here

Our goal with this course is to give you the practical goals and confidence to go and make your own 2-minute documentary.

Why 2 minutes? Movies become exponentially more difficult the more time you add - more footage, more angles to consider, etc, while with 2 minutes, it provides boundaries that will keep your project manageable within the length of the course.

For those who complete this course and want to continue, we are offering a second phase where participants will work together in a group to produce a longer documentary (15-30 minutes). More information to come!

Course Overview

• Capturing Images: Understand how to set exposure, frame and record the clips for your documentary

• Lighting: How to look at and use light to create flattering interviews

• Sound: How to capture clean audio of your subject

• Storytelling: Coming up with the concept, building a T-script and how to approach B-Roll and other supporting footage

• Interview Techniques: How do you approach someone to interview & how do you get the most out of your subject?

• Editing: Learn how to build your edit, add sounds and music, colour correct, add titles and export your final movie. We use DaVinci Resolve, a free but program but you can use any NLE as the concepts are similar. Bear in mind that we may not be able to provide direct program support if we aren't familiar with it.
