The Team
Meet your Documentary Impact Challenge Team! We come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, interests and knowledge but we're all connected by a love of all things moving image and a passion for helping people reach their full potential.

Kevin loves nothing more than to share his passion for documentary filmmaking with anyone who will listen - good thing we all love documentaries! He is a seasoned British documentary and factual filmmaker that's worked with major broadcasters like the BBC & National Geographic as well as NGOs like WWF and UNICEF.
Kevin has done pretty much every job that's required to make documentaries from directing, to camera operation, to sound and editing. All this to say that as our primary teacher for The Hague and area, you are in very good hands.
Documentary Diplomat
If there is one thing that Patrick loves besides movies, it's being a "penvoerder". The direct translation is penholder & since they say that the key to happiness is low expectations, Patrick must be truly enlightened. No, not really - well, maybe... but as "penvoerder" he's basically responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program and making sure it is running smooth, staying on budget, etc, as he does for the Rotterdam Writers' Rooms already.
Next to this, Patrick has worn myriad filmmaking hats: mostly as producer but he's filmed, edited and directed numerous documentaries and short movies over the years. He's a very knowledgeable chap when it comes to filmmaking and you might even see him delivering a few lessons here and there!
Omnipresent Overseer
Elmer loves new, shiny things, and says "Ooh shiny!" when he sees them, which is a perfectly appropriate response to seeing shiny things. With educational backgrounds in business, psychology and audio engineering, he spends most of his days these days running around with cameras (because... obviously).
Having done everything from building websites, filming corporate videos, event photography, teaching audio, dance and photography, he might fit the definition of a "Renaissance Man" only he never really got into the whole renaissance movement. But he is putting all this to good use in this program and you'll likely see him running around documenting stuff for socials and perhaps teaching a lesson or three.
Program Paparazzo
Herb is the curmudgeonly "back in my day" old man who shakes his fist at everyone running around with a shiny new digital camera (like me!) because "analogue is better end of story!"
All jokes aside, Herb is a true multidisciplinary artist who's been a tour photographer, graphic designer and videographer (this means digital). In 2016 he released his documentary "Typhoon: Blues & Blessings" with BNN/VARA.
He has a real soft spot for analogue photography & filmmaking - the slowing down, thinking about what you really want to capture because you have a limited amount of shots you can take, setting up the perfect framing, all of that. The focus, thus, of the program in Zwolle is all about the love & art of analogue and he's just the guy to teach it!
